A Recent Trip to Uluru in the Australian Outback

Uluru is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the center of Australia. It is an iron and mineral heavy, sandstone monolith that is bright red and sacred to the Aboriginal people of the area. Uluru is probably the most recognizable natural landmark in Aurstralia.

We stayed in the Kata Tjuta National Park for 3 days and enjoyed the beautiful sunrises, sunsets and star-filled skies. Because the light pollution is low, take the time to hike in the wilderness, distant enough from any artificial light, and simply enjoy an amazing view of the starry sky.

I was most fascinated with the iron rich soil that glowed bright orange/red. The setting sun provided a fun setting to create shadow people. The natural colors of red, orange, sage and sky blue surrounded us in all directions. These are all of my favorite colors and it provided a natural stage for meditating and soaking in all the natural wonders of wild places.

Ulura is a land you will enjoy as long as you appreciate wild places, early mornings, starry skies, and long hikes. This should be a travel goal on your bucket list.
